Satellite TV,Photo Physics and Global Warming

Recently I came across a new animal called "Television" (often abbreviated to TV, T.V.; sometimes called , telly or the tube, bloob tube or boob tube, or idiot box in British English). According to Mr. Wiki, it is a "widely used telecommunication system for broadcasting and receiving moving pictures and sound over a distance". That is fine, I do agree.

This box is said to have a lot of "Educational advantages" - This is also fine, I do agree.

I was thinking that Television was invented by Thomas Alva Edison, but someone told me that TV is not just a bulb - so I do agree that it is invented by some one else - that is also fine - I do agree.

During my childhood, I was thinking that those characters we see in the serials are living inside this box. I used to wonder from which restaurant they are taking food as I never seen them going out - while grown up I realized that that is also false - I do agree here also that I was a fool.

If I start agreeing like this, I will not have time for anything else. Therefore let us stop this game here and see what I am going to disagree. Let us take the first input from Wiki itself:

"With high lead content in CRTs, and the rapid diffusion of new, flat-panel display technologies, some of which (LCDs) use lamps containing mercury, there is growing concern about electronic waste from discarded televisions. Related occupational health concerns exist, as well, for disassemblers removing copper wiring and other materials from CRTs. Further environmental concerns related to television design and use relate to the devices' increasing electrical energy requirements."

This is what Wiki is bothered about. Yes, unfortunately I have to agree again - this is true. While reading above I noticed the keywords - "CRT", "Lamps with Mercury", "lead Content", "Electronic", and most important thing "Electrical Energy Requirements"! Uh - finally we are there!

I am sure that all of you are sure about the concerns - however as there are people still having old copper ballast on their brain, let me re-quote them:

• CRT
• Lamps with Mercury
• lead Content
• Electronic
• Electrical Energy Requirements

Further more, these components emits heat. Also, during the production of required electricity, the generators or the reactors or the power plants emits a lot of heat. Both are contributing a lot to global warming! Siva Siva!

Therefore the solution is also lying around the fact that we have to avoid all above stuffs from our Television. Is it possible? Or impossible? Or may be possible? Or impossible is possible? Let us listen to what I am going to say.

"It is possible"!

That is what I told. Now the usual question - "How"?

It is very very and very simple. Connect a big screen flat panel LCD or TFT TV to a geostationary satellite, put it under the tail of a big rocket, open up the match box, make fire and put it on the rocket! Clap the hands and wait for few moments.

Now what happened? The Mr. Television in the sky, rotating along with earth, and smiling at you! How it is getting the power to smile? Is it nuclear electricity? No! Is it thermal power? No! Is it kerosene/Petrol or Diesel power? No! Is it hydro-electric power? No! Is it chemical power? No! Then what it is? "Solar power"! No heat, no gas, no CO, no toxin, no radiation..... clean electricity!

Okie, now the TV is in the sky - 35,786 Kilometers above the head! How to watch it?

There comes the magic of photo-physics! Go to your roof, where the old "Dish Antenna" was located. Throw that Antenna away, clean the surface and place a big Convex Lens! Adjust the focus using the equation (1/f) = (n-1) [(1/R1) - (1/R2)] and look at the floor - what you can see?

Nothing but a small inverted image of the TV placed above the head! Whatever shown in the TV can be watched on the floor!

Let me be proactive and smart - I know what you are going to complain now:

- the image is in the roof - can't watch TV from bed room or living room!
- the image is inverted
- the image is too small

Yes, let me complete the design - you will clap the hands. Now listen the rest!

"the image is in the roof - can't watch TV from bed room or living room!" - yes, true. Now we have to bring it to the room. How? There comes the "Fiber Optic Technology". An optical fiber can take the light at one end and transport it to the other end, irrespective of the turns and twists on the fiber. And, what is the image we see on the floor? It is nothing but light! So keep one end of our optical fiber there. Take the other end to your living room or bed room or toilet or wherever you want! Either look through the fiber for a direct view or show the fiber to a white screen for a projected view!

"the image is inverted" - Simple, Simple and Simple - 5th standard physics. Use one more convex lens.

"the image is too small" - this was a concern raised by Galileo Galilei and he identified the solution also! Use one more convex lens with a minimal focal length!

That is it! What we see now?

- All the channels at your fiber tip!

Volcano (അഗ്നി പര്‍വതം ) and Air Conditioning...

Hello all, I am back! Was busy with my CISA exam and few travels.. not like I have ran away from the physics and energy theory as few jealous people and critical resources / senior software engineers around me pointed..

Okie, what is the issue today? As usual, I have identified another potential source of energy, which got ignored by the intellectual community! This source is nothing but volcanos!

"Volcanooooooo????!!!!! How we will go near to that? It is so hot and melting lava will kill you!" - the first feedback for my idea!

Listen! It is possible to go there - if we can build those spaceships which travels with live human beings through high as well as low temperatures, it is possible to go near a volcano by hiring such a spacecraft. Melting lava - uh.. consider a boating through lava river or lake! Crazy? - not at all! - Refer this!

Btw, do anyone have any doubt that what is coming out of an active volcano is energy itself? If yes, I will give the map which will tell you how to reach there - just have a visit without hiring any spacecrafts - so that you can experience the energy. Now, how to make managed use of this energy? Here we need to open up the brain. This requires further studies. The key points to be kept in brain are:

Primary form of energy available here is heat.

In many cases, cooking gas also comes out from active volcano - will investigate further on how to burn this gas and get energy.

The lava flow generates much more mechanical energy than normal water flow creates due to its density.

Considering these facts, if we think what are all the things we can do with an active volcano, the possibilities are unlimited. Few of them are:

It is hot up to 1000 degree Celsius. That means, we can use it for medical sterilization. Just dip the syringe or surgical weapons in lava for a minute - they must be clean from any worms and viruses!

If you engineer an iron or steel water pipe grid placed in a volcano and let the water run through it, you will get steam at the other end - very well we can design a thermal power station. Too natural too!

If you are able to run your washed clothes through the same pipe, you will be able to make it dry. A drier with absolutely zero electricity required. (...if you are able to pass yourself after a bath...)

If you blow chilled air throw it, you will get hot air at the other end, the hot air can be distributed across the globe for air conditioning systems (HVAC)

A volcano can be used for waste disposal - if we put garbage into an active volcano, all the waste will become ashes in a minute! A better way of waste management. (Cities like kochi must consider this)

The volcano can be used for cooking large amount of food (may be one volcano is enough to cater all the cooking needs of a country) lava rivers can be used for freshly cooked food - without loosing the heat.

Controlled exposure of water to a volcano will produce hot water - all the water heaters can be replaced with a volcano and cost we save on energy can be used for a pleasure trip to mars....

These are the quick list of possible things we can do with a volcano's energy. If we invest some time and money for research and development, the possibilities are still many. I can put some light to the directions where we have to conduct more research. They are:

- Possibility for extracting Nuclear fuel such as uranium from lava
- Possibility for making petrol from lava
- Possibility for extracting gold and platinum from lava
- Possibility for using frozen lava as fertilizer
- Possibility for natural gas from volcano
- Possibility for using dead volcano for underground transport

The list is huge and this is called "possibilities unlimited!"

Why train is in this shape?

I am sitting in a strategic chair in my office. The advantage is, I can see all "shinkansens" entering, sleeping and exiting the Tokyo station from my chair. It is nice view - as approaching the station, they used to be in a very slow speed and my view is from 29th floor - it appears like a python moving on the ground. I have done little investigation about them and found that they are moving on wheels. Thus I started studying about the wheel technology and I was forced to learn that the biggest challenge in implementing a train running on wheels is the gravity and friction. When the gravity pulls the train down, the friction is getting powerful. Either we need to prevent gravity at the gate or kill friction on the track to achieve smooth running.

I was in the mud of wheel and shinkansen articles and realized that the "wheeled" shinkansen technology is stuck at achieving 500 Km/Hr speeds due to gravity and friction. That too after burning a lot of electricity or fossil fuel and contributing to global warming and sound pollution! Many scientists and engineers are still working to identify possible techniques to increase the speed further. (Oh! They ignored me! That is why this article! :-))

Thus, after googling for few minutes, I was able to summarize today's challenges as below:

Speed is limited at 500 Km/Hr

Heat and sound pollutions are a concern

An accident will end up in heavy damage including lot of life.

Needs lengthy platforms in the station caused scalability concerns.

Existing architecture uses a lot of complex mechanical designs making it very complex

Needs a very powerful engine adds up the cost of implementation

I don't know why I am so intelligent to get such simple solutions for these complex issues within seconds! Trust me, it took only few minutes for me to solve all above issues!

Here is my finding - the root cause for all above issues is due to the shape of train. Just change the shape of train and track; all issues are solved for ever!

What shape? What is wrong with existing shape? uh... questions!

Simple, change the shape of every car from 3D rectangle to sphere of same volume! Why sphere shape? Due to lot of advantages of sphere shape:

- High tolerance - even if it hits hard, it retains the shape.
- No Tires - makes design simple and movement flexible
- Low friction - compared to any other shape, the energy required to move a sphere is very less.
- High Mobility - due to its shape, it has an inborn tendency to ignore gravity/friction and keep moving
- Low running cost - as friction is low and mobility is high, we save a lot on the daily energy requirements to start, run and stop a sphere.
- Security – As sphere is having much higher tolerance than any other shape, the cars are resistant to damages caused by collision and accident.
- Scalability - We can stack the cars vertically, one above other - saves length of platform. Bring the sphere one by one to the ground, board the passengers and push to the track!

So what are we going to do? - we are going to replace every car in the train with a sphere. Inside the sphere, there will be a "floating" compartment where the seats are arranged. As it is floating, it doesn't matter whichever way the sphere turns, the passengers will retain the same position. So, now our train looks like a chain of spheres. Keep it in a track, don't connect any engine - just clap the hands and give a mild kick at the back - you will see that it started moving! This is sufficient for implementing a metro rail system - the station master can give a kick at the back of the train and it will reach the next station! No power, no engine, no electricity, no pollution....

For high speed transportation, use the help of an engine. You may have to design a tunnel to hold the spheres in place. Put enough oil as lubricant to make system further smooth. In this setup, I am sure that even by using an auto-riksha engine, we can achieve the speed of more than 1000 Km/Hr - that is more that the speed of an international flight!

So when you are going to implement this concept? ("Don't you agree with me?")

Fish Electricity from Kitchen Waste

Most of my articles are tend to be about electricity and the methods of producing electric power. This is not because I am an "electric man", but the society made me to dig on electricity. I can't keep my mouth shut when the society is starving and at the same time food is available under their nose! Even after reading all my articles, the ministers are repeating the same story - today they will say "we have to do load shedding" and tomorrow in another stage they will say "no...this year we have enough water in our government.....so no load shedding...". Now, Google is fed up with these statements and asking me what to do! They have already installed a dedicated server to handle these statements because the number of search results on electricity, load shedding and power cut is in millions! Can't trust? Aquariums are very beautiful and many of us own one and used to keep in our houses. It is an amusement for kids as well as elder people to feed the fishes. This is the story of simple houses - keeping fishes for non-profit purpose. There are farmers who does large level fish farming. Usually this is supported by government through various means such as subsidy, loans and marketing support. If you have enough land and water, this would be an ideal business for you - much better than software development or engineering. No certifications required no written tests, no job interviews!

Time to start questions! "Dude... you started with Edison, electricity and power cut, and ended with fish farming... what is this? Do you think that we are fools?...." Different from previous articles, this time the questions looks little tough!

Trust me, without a reasonable reason, I won't talk about anything. I used to see those simple facts where all the science community used to miss. This time also! Let us see what it is.

We have severe concerns about the production and consumption of electricity because the demand is more than availability. No proper planning has been taken to manage the future demands of electricity. And the most disappointing fact is that, even if we plan, it will take years to start the construction. Even if the construction is started, again years are required to complete it and start the production. In short, we need a cost effective and quickly scalable technology for producing electricity. In addition to that, if the source is natural, there is nothing like that!

Now, time to link this requirement with fish. Everyone knows that there are many fishes which can generate electricity from their body. The most powerful one out of these fish community is "electric eel". Read the article carefully - you will see that it can generate 500 Volts, 1 Ampere electricity. That means, just one fish can drive a 500 Watts pump set - which is sufficient to pump water for one small family! If you have just 5 numbers of such fishes, it is more than enough to run the complete house with all equipments such as TV, Washing Machine, Heater, Iron box, or even Air Conditioner!

Now, the cost of production - these fishes can be trained to eat your kitchen waste and biological waste! This has two advantages - the kitchen waste can be converted to electricity as well as we can stop worrying about waste disposal and management - in other words, we don't have to take loan from ADB! Will have a positive impact on GDP!

The implementation strategy can also be in two forms - either every house can feed their own fishes or a big fish farm can act as a "fish power station" for the entire state. The existing distribution infrastructure can be used in this scenario also, which helps in reducing the cost of implementation. To easy the management, it is a great idea to merge electricity department with fisheries department and assign a jobless minister to head it.

The summary is:

Cheap electricity - prices will further go down and GDP will further go up!

plenty of electricity - no more load shedding!

Bio-Electricity - no heat, no radiation, no dam collapse, no toxins etc.

Electricity from kitchen garbage - better waste management

Fishes controls mosquito breeding - No more "Chicken Gunia" and "Dengue".

Can be integrated with existing aquariums or fish farms - seamless integration

Scalability - just grow more fishes to support growing demand

Quick production - Comparing to the current power projects which takes years to complete, it will take just few months only to get a fish productive.

Now tell me, is there any reason to not to make use of it? ("Don't you agree with me?")

Global Warming and E=MC^2

Global warming has been emerged as a hot discussion topic. It gained its popularity in recent years through many international meetings and research papers. It has been introduced as an enemy of life and every scientist is there to support this label. Some people are telling that the sea will swallow our land because of global warming. Some others telling that the forests and the mango trees will get burned because of global warming. Another set of people says that the summer will kill entire living things in the earth because of global warming. Some others talk about climate changes, Carbon Dioxide, Methane, Greenhouse gases, anthropogenic climate blah blah blaaaaah!

In short, all are trying to blame each other and projected global warming as “killer” phenomena! It is sad that no one has bothered to think differently, understand why global warming has became a killer or to remediate global warming! Understand that no one is born as a criminal! The society made global warming as a criminal!

Keeping above fact in mind, I met Mr. Global Warming to understand him from another angle. The story came out was slightly shocking and moreover much interesting. The shocking fact that it is not a criminal! And the interesting fact is that it can be controlled very much by showing the text book of physics! Am I crazy? Let us check!

I said it is not a criminal because it is a natural effect. It doesn't have any intension to wipe out the life from earth. It doesn't even know what is life. Also, as others say, the air conditioners and refrigerators are not its father nor fossil fuels are its mother! Then how it took birth? The DNA test revels that it took birth from earth - like any other living thing! How? All knows that earth is always exposed to sharp sunlight and it is not capable to use fair and lovely for the sake of UV protection. So what happened? For years and years, twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, it is absorbing hot sunlight and plenty of Ultra Violet and Infra Red radiation. Just think - naturally the temperature of its atmosphere will go high. That is why I said it is not a criminal - it is a natural phenomena, and there is nothing to blame! Therefore PLEASE stop blaming anyone for global warming!

Now, second point - how to wave Physics text book to global warming and stop it? Very Very Simple! Clap the hands and open the text book and look for a theory called "Conservation of Energy". It says "Conservation of energy states that the total amount of energy in an isolated system remains constant, although it may change forms (for instance, friction turns kinetic energy into thermal energy).

Yes, "it may change forms" - that is the catch. What is global warming? It is just energy - to be more clear, it is "Heat" energy. We are struggling a lot to generate heat - by using heater, petrol, gas stove, thanthuri oven, grill, thermal station - the way we waste time and money to generate heat is many. At the same time, no one is realizing that global warming is just that heat what we are looking for! In simple language, stop all these exercises, think how to extract heat from global warming and start using that heat for the heat requirements in the house and country!

Extracting heat? How? This requires more research. We have already many means of extracting the heat (rather the radiation from sun) and convert it into other useful means and most of those devices start with "solar" in their name. That is one way of doing it. Consume as much as possible sunlight. I am sure, if we could do that, we can shut down all power stations around the world.

If this is not possible, or if still there is excess sunlight even after satisfying all power requirements, then we need alternate solution. The best suitable solution will be to design few "pass" stations or "relay" stations for this excess energy. The idea is to pump the excess energy we are receiving on earth either back to sun or to somewhere else in the universe. What we require here is an equipment which can take the radiation from sun, then pass it to a dish antenna kind of "concentrator or reflector" and beam it to a place outside the universe! A simple one will be a set of solar panels which will convert the excess energy from sun to electricity, pass it to a big heater coil placed in the focus of a reflector and the reflector facing the sky. In this station, the excess energy we receive from sun will be first converted to current and then to heat and then pushed out of earth's atmosphere through sky!

I am sure that placing this equipment in strategic places in earth will control the global warming in a very natural way. This is just one way of doing it. There are many other methods - think about converting excess energy (heat or radiation) to mass (stone or water) using the machine E = MC^2. This is interesting - "don't you agree"??

Remote Controlled Cow

I used to call google as "Guru" because whenever there is a question, I consult with google and in most cases; google is able to provide satisfactory answers. Also, all my IT, IT Enabled and IT Disabled friends will agree with the fact that India is leading in IT market because of google. If google was not there, most of the software professionals, including myself, can't think about writing even a single line of code! In short, google is not just guru, but much more than that!

Okie, as usual, today also I was chatting with Mr. Google Guru on various subjects and topics around me. On the way, we stuck up with one new idea of connecting powerful mechanical parts on human body and controlling them using human brain. This is because the human brain is very powerful and intelligent compared to any available computer, and human body is not that strong to utilize that brain. So, in short, instead of using a Motorola micro-controller in your fuzzy logic vacuum cleaner, we can hook up our own brain and....... sorry, you may not be able to understand that!

Let us come back to the matter. My questions to Mr. Google and the answers from Mr. Google were progressing as above. Suddenly I got hit by google with this article.

The article claims that insects can be "controlled" using a remote control. This is based on the fact that the brain signaling is happening using electric pulses (Is it binary/Boolean? TTL or CMOS?). Don't trust me? Check it Here! If that is the case, there is no doubt that the brain, thoughts and feelings can be controlled using an external electric source. And this is the fundamental theory used in controlling the insects.

I was thinking about the application of this achievement in our daily life. I have seen lot of cows and buffalos in our place, where people are struggling to control them using "mookku kayar" and ropes. Many times the activities and techniques used to control cows are exceeding the limits defined by animal rights law. Some cows and buffalos that are having social awareness used to react on such cases results in forcing the owner to go for bed rest.

Therefore, cows and buffalos are the primary community which is eligible to benefit from the remote control. As suggested in the article, we can remove the horns of cow and insert two electrodes to impose signals to brain. The equipment can be easily screwed on the head or left hanging on the neck. An array of solar panels can be attached to the cow for the power requirements. Or, alternately we can install a mini-thermal power station which will produce electricity using the heat from cow's body!

Now the advantages – keeping this “remote” in hand, cows are 100% under control. We can program the cow in such a way that it must wake up at 6:00 AM for milking. We can program the cow to eat only selected grass. We can program the cow to not to eat the kids of banana tree, coconut tree and jack fruit tree. We can disable the cow from milking to strangers. We can prevent the cow from making traffic blocks. We can ask the cow to go to shelter at sharp 6:00 PM. What else, we can update the firmware of cow to prevent it from unexpected hardware reboots, we can install patches and updates.....

"What do you think?"

Gravity,Cycle Tube and 3rd World War!

World War 3 for Energy? Yes! That is what I could conclude from recent deals with N Korea. Refer This! Same is expected with Iran also!

Yes, this time they were able to offer oil and settle the issue. But the big question in front of the world is not yet answered - once we drain out of oil, what we will do for energy? Nuclear, Naphtha or Coal? Then global warming will kill you! Solar? Bloody Bloody Expensive! Bio-gas from cow shit? Sorry, no enough number of cows to do that shit!

The question remains!

I should say, we are doing blunders by spending time, money and energy to research on these “alternate fuel” concepts. Moreover, the biggest mistake with us is, we will do research, find out the facts, write it on a paper or publish on a university website and then SLEEP on it! Then I have to come and kick off the thought process to see someone is making use of these findings and facts! This time also situation is the same.

The concern is an alternate energy source, and the solution is from lower primary school text books on geography and physics! First, let us open the physics text book and read how the thermal power stations are working. They manage to rotate a turbine connected to a generator using steam. read it here.

Now the question is "where I will get this much of steam?" or "Will my kitchen gas stove support generating this much steam?". Instead of running to kitchen, please open the geography text book and read about the earth, its atmosphere and the temperature distribution. Note down two points - The core of earth is very very hot! Up to 100,000 degree Celsius! Read it here. . Next point to note is that the temperature of atmosphere at 6-10 km is very cool! Down to -51 degree Celsius! Either believe me or read it here!

Oh...gotcha... this crazy guy is talking about "Geothermal station".. this is already available! Nothing new!

Sorry dear, please read till end. Understand that there are people who think out of the box, but they are not grown enough to think from the moon or mars (ref:my previous post). A geothermal station is an innovative implementation, but it sucks whole water from the under-earth and will finally end up in all the problems caused by bore wells! If such a station comes near to your house, you will not find water in your house well!

Now let me continue! We have seen the extreme high temperature in the core of earth and extreme low temperature above our head - atmosphere. Now, make a big heat-proof tunnel in circular shape (should look like a stressed version of cycle tire tube - hero or BSA can help!). Now, cut the tube somewhere, and insert the turbine attached with generator. Fix this portion (turbine and generator) on the ground. Ensure that it is fixed properly so that it can withstand the vibrations caused once the turbine start turning.

Now, dig the ground downwards looking for the core of earth. This can be identified by testing the temperature. While digging you may pass through a layer full of water and frogs (this is where the conventional "wells will terminate) - keep a raincoat with you to help yourself here. You may stop digging once you reach an area where the temperature is good enough to instant boil the water. Pull the tire tube till here.

Now, come out of the earth, and try to drag other end of the remaining tube vertically upwards. You may have to go 6-10 kilometers upwards, where you will meet low temperature sufficient to cool the steam instantly to water. Try to keep the tube there. You may hang it on the branch of a tree or set up a helium balloon above the tube to keep it floating at that height.

Our job is over. Now come to earth, clap the hands and fill water in the tube. Look at that! The water has gone down to the underground portion of the tube (Thanks to Sir Isaac Newton for inventing gravity!). At the moment it reaches the core, it is getting boiled and becoming steam due to the extreme temperature, getting expanded and forced to get out of the tube through the other end! Oh, on the other end what is happening? It is going up to the sky... and getting converted back to water due to extreme low temperature! Once it is water, the gravity pulls it down and it is going back to the core and repeating the cycle!

We could see the steam is cycling through the tube and it forces our turbine to turn! Got stunned? Get up and look at the generator! It is pumping a lot of electricity! Eurekaaaa!

All our energy needs are satisfied here without causing any kind of environmental hazards, without causing global warming, without begging for oil, without smoke, without radiation, without dam collapse - all by using gravity and natural force!

Moreover no world war for oil and energy! Bring peace to life!

Tip: You may use a mini version of this to replace the refrigerator cum heater cum oven for household use. Instead of therm-o-stat, use a "height-o-stat" to adjust the height of the food shelf. (Push down to cook, pull up to freeze!)

Note: Remember to fill the digg-ed ground with soil. Else some kids will chase some ball and fall inside.
